April 24th, 2019

Billings History

Santa Barbara is known for its amazing architectural history, often represented in the many estates located in the hills. Cornelius Billings, a well known entrepreneur, brought his love of extravagant manors to Santa Barbara where he built his own residence know as Billing’s Estate. When he wasn’t building his empire, he often collected art, practiced philanthropy, and became a very prominent horseman. Billings made sure all of his estates included extravagant stables and training rings of his own. One of his first large estates was built in the Upper Manhattan and was over 25,000 square feet. This estate was complete with a stable for all 75 of his racing horses, a gymnasium, and two 5 room suites for living quarters.

Family Meets Santa Barbara

Near the end of his life Billings made the move to Santa Barbara, California where he built a large estate named “Asambrosa”. This mansion, built in the hills, lasted only a few years before it was severely damaged in an earthquake. Billings built a smaller estate nearby shortly after the earthquake.

840 Cima Linda Lane

The land originally occupied by Billings is spread out over many properties along Cima Linda Lane. Our newly listed 840 Cima Linda Lane prominently sits on the land that was once a part of the estate and enjoys the same amazing ocean and mountain views as Billings. Although the home was built in 1990, the architecture was constructed to replicate the Spanish architecture found through out the Billings Estate.

840 Cima Linda Lane is currently listed at $5,695,000 and enjoys 5 bedrooms, 6 bathrooms, and a pool all sitting on .86 acres. This Mediterranean masterpiece is spread out over 6,600 square feet which includes a central fireplace, 3-car garage, and a very spacious kitchen. Located in one of Montecito’s premier lanes, this home is merely minutes away from both Santa Barbara and Montecito amenities.
